One of the biggest advantages of staying at Sandals Barbados is that you still receive access to all the amenities at Sandals Royal Barbados, effectively giving you two resorts for the price of one.
Rooms and Hotels: Barbados vs Royal Barbados
The Royal Barbados side is more modern, while the Barbados side features an older architectural style but offers more oceanfront views.
Pools at Sandals Barbados vs Royal Barbados
Between the two resorts, there are five large pool areas. This includes the stunning infinity pool at Sandals Royal Barbados that overlooks the beach and the turquoise Caribbean Sea. It is absolutely gorgeous and one of the best spots on property for photos.
There is also a roof top sky pool with a bar and jacuzzi, creating a more relaxed and upscale vibe. It is a great place to unwind with a cocktail while taking in the view day or night.
Both resorts feature numerous swim-up rooms and suites. On the Barbados side, guests can enjoy basketball and pool volleyball. Adjacent to the pool is a patio with corn hole, and the water-sports area is nearby.
Throughout the day, you will find live entertainment poolside. The main pool on the Royal side is lively, with water aerobics, and live music. During our visit, we saw steel drum musicians creating that classic island atmosphere and even a saxophonist playing.
While butlers reserve the front area of the main oceanfront pool, it’s still easy to find chairs if you wake up early. With five pools across both properties, seating was generally available. The Sky Pool appeared to be open at all times and features a pool, hot tub, and bar on the sixth floor.
Beach Conditions in Barbados
In February, the ocean can be rough, making watersports directly off the beach difficult. However, complimentary snorkeling and scuba trips are available, with a short drive to the boat departure area.
Entertainment & Activities:
The resort offers a wide range of entertainment and activities, including bowling, multiple bars with live entertainment, large stage performances, piano bars, silent headphone parties, and karaoke.
Food and Restaurants at Sandals Barbados and Royal Barbados
The food across both resorts exceeded expectations, with most restaurants rated highly.
Portofino’s Italian was an 8 out of 10, while Bombay Club, Kimono’s, Butch’s Steak and Seafood, and Sweet n’ Salty’s were all strong highlights. Café de Paris and the Jerk Shack also stood out, with fresh options and consistent quality.
Heart & Sol was a standout, especially for fresh juices and lighter breakfast options, and the avocado toast was a favorite.
Fresh-squeezed juices every morning at Heart & Sol, and the avocado toast was an 11/10!
Favorites include Butch’s Seafood, Butch’s Steakhouse, a healthy side dining option, and a fresh Smoothie Bar where you can watch your smoothie being made with your choice of fruits and vegetables.And the jerk chicken is honestly some of the best we have had in the Caribbean.

The staff at every level of the resort was incredibly friendly and welcoming.
There was no pressure to tip, and staff did not expect it.
Rated 7/10 – Rooms were cleaned daily, but often not until 4–5 PM, which could be improved. Dirty towels were collected, but service was sometimes inconsistent. We frequently left our service room light on all day, but it still wasn’t cleaned in a timely manner. Nightly turn-down service was not provided, though we heard other guests were offered it. The resort seemed short-staffed, so this may have been an off week.
Absolutely gorgeous! A tour of the island is a must. Some recommended experiences include:
- Oistins Fish Fry Market (Fridays)
- Snorkeling with turtles, stingrays, and shipwrecks
- Historical island tours
- Feeding the monkeys
- Visiting Rihanna Drive
- Exploring the Animal & Flower Caves & Restaurant
Excursions and Tours in Barbados
Island Routes is the best choice for booking island excursions, but a private island tour is another great option. I highly recommend this—Jason and I did it, and it was fantastic.
